Because Airfare to Italy Is So Expensive . . .

Please check the Web site for updated information.

Ah, if only you had the cash to buy those first-class tickets to Venice! Until that happy day comes, however, you can revel in Chicago’s 51st Annual Venetian Night in Millennium Park for far less moola. The event features approximately 35 boats decorated with lights and props, as they sail along Lake Michigan between the Shedd Aquarium at Roosevelt Road and the Chicago Yacht Club at Monroe Street. The city recommends walking or biking to this Saturday extravaganza, which experts estimate will attract about 675,000 people. Show up at 6:30 for a Luciano Pavarotti tribute concert, followed by a reenactment of an air-sea rescue, the boat parade and fireworks. One more tip: Stake out your spot along the lakefront early . . . you’re not the only Chicagoan to have the bright idea that this free happening beats the cost of a trip to Italy!
