Yes, yes . . . the Jolly Green Giant graces all of our tables with his bounty of canned delights, but how about getting fresh for a change? Chicago’s downtown farmers markets make it easy to purchase affordable produce from late spring through the end of fall. You can spend your Thursday stocking up on fruits, veggies, pastries and other homemade products at the recently opened Daley Plaza Farmers Market on Washington and Dearborn. Starting June 19, the Sears Tower Farmers Market will also be serving patrons on Thursdays. For Tuesday action, check out the markets at Prudential Plaza and Federal Plaza. A visit to any of the Windy City’s farmers markets is also the ideal opportunity to talk with your tykes about nutrition and agriculture. After all, none of us want our preschoolers thinking that the Jolly Green Giant is actually responsible for growing all that corn!
