Perhaps gas prices kept you and the fam away from that perfect little camping spot just across the state line, but that’s no excuse to retire your tents. Instead, simply make use of a closer venue and organize a campout in your own backyard. Sure, you’ll need that tent we mentioned, sleeping bags, flashlights and whatever other camping accoutrements you want to include, but, if you forget anything major (think your babe’s favorite blankie or bear), salvation is a hop, skip and a jump away. And, if it rains (or you’re lacking in the prerequisite yard), get creative and move your outdoor gala inside your living room. If you want to be a super cool parent, consider inviting a few other families to join you for your big sleepover. Besides, it might help to have someone on hand who knows how to cook s’mores (rather than incinerate them).
