With 200 miles of hiking trails, there is more than enough at Harriman State Park to keep your family busy throughout the year, but, as the summer sun beats away, you'll want to stay near one of the park's three beaches. Lake Sebago Beach features a mile-long stretch of sand, as well as a protected swimming area. If you believe that bigger is better, head over to Lake Welch Beach, which boasts 17 swimming areas and a snack bar. Finally, Lake Tiorati Beach is smallest of Harriman's three beaches but still has plenty of shade trees that are perfect to perch under for a picnic or a good read. Harriman State Park is located in Bear Mountain, New York, about 45 minutes north of the city, and is open daily from sunrise to sunset. Admission to the park is free, with a $7 parking fee per vehicle.
