There’s something classic about going for a horse or pony ride. Whether you’re a posh Elizabeth Taylor in National Velvet-type or a down-home cowgirl, there’s nothing like it. And, even though we are deep in the heart of a major city, there are still ways to get your boot-wearing, horseback-riding, saddle-sitting time in. Check out Lynne’s Riding School in Forest Hills, which has been open for more than 60 years. (It was started in 1945 by Lynne’s parents.) Kids can enjoy their first rides on one of the school’s horses or ponies, as they go three times around the ring with a handler leading the way. (And, even if you wait, the facility has an indoor ring and is open year-round) The school is all about making confident riders, and their riding trails that extend into Forest Park are available for experienced riders only.
