What’s a Saturday without riding a sled down 2,050 feet of track to the banks of the Mississippi River? You won’t know what you’ve been missing until you jump on a lift and take advantage of the Alpine Slide at Chestnut Mountain Resort in Galena. Your speed-filled adventure will be similar to whipping along in a bobsled (except that you’ll be whooshing away on a smooth track, minus the snow, of course). And, unless you’re afraid of heights, be sure to look out while you’re using the lift, as you’ll get views of three states on a clear day. Plan on shelling out anywhere from $6 to $7 per person for a single ride. Seriously, that’s a pretty small price to pay, considering the ER bill you’ll face if your tykes get bored and try soaring down your banister instead.
