Okay, so technically you won’t get all that chilly if you visit Glacial Park Conservation Area in Ringwood, as you’ll only be touring a remnant of glacial activity. That said, your kids will be just as entertained as if they were watching Ice Age because you and the brood can explore everything from restored prairies to oak savannas and wetlands. The trip to Ringwood will definitely prove worth the extra time in the car, as you can take your pick from picnic grounds, canoe landings and trails for horseback riding, hiking and nature observation. In addition, consider an outing to the area in winter, when you can take advantage of amenities for skiing and sledding. There’s no admission fee, though you may want to pack some juice boxes to keep everyone refreshed. (As we mentioned, you won’t be getting any fresh water from the non-existent glaciers.)
