Forget Pizza Hut – now’s your chance to say TGIF with a little Viener Schnitzel! This weekend is a celebration of all-things German in the Windy City and is your opportunity to check out German Day Festival at Giddings Plaza. Free admission will gain you access to traditional music, dancing, food, beverages and cultural programming (though you’ll obviously have to shell out a few bucks for the beer and brats). The festival opens at 5:00 P.M. (though the United German-American Societies of Greater Chicago do a good deed by providing free meals to up to 500 local senior citizens earlier in the day.) It then runs Friday through Sunday and coincidentally falls on the same weekend as the Von Steuben Parade on Lincoln Avenue. And, yes, you can wear your lederhosen, but the folks at the admission gate will settle for jeans or slacks if you insist on being a spoilsport.
