Are you ready to race? Well, if you aren’t, a little Red Bull might do the trick. Even if you’re not a fan of the stimulating beverage, you’ll still enjoy watching the Red Bull Soapbox Race on September 6. Simply head to Lyceum Avenue in Manayunk, otherwise known as “The Wall.” Admission is free, the gates open at 11:00 A.M., and the first competition kicks off two hours later. Forty teams of up to four members each will “race against the clock in a downhill dash to the finish line” in inventive, human-powered driving machines that have taken the form of everything from toilets to spaceships in previous races. Participants will be judged on speed, creativity and showmanship. With all the excitement of this Saturday happening, you probably won’t even need Starbucks to keep your eyes peeled . . . let alone liquid energy in a can.
