With so much history in the City, it’s hard to find a place where Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, George Washington and other great American leaders haven’t tread. And Bartram’s Garden is no exception. Situated on 44 acres of land only 15 minutes from Center City, Bartram’s Garden is the oldest living botanical garden in the country. Often described as a time capsule of 18th-century America, Bartram’s Garden serves to highlight the difference between the rural lifestyle of North Philadelphia back then and the refineries and warehouses of North Philadelphia today. If you haven’t had the opportunity to check out the Gardens, today would be a great day to do so as they’ll be hosting the Southwest Community Day which will feature children’s activities, food and free Schuylkill River cruises.
